Back in December of last year I wrote about taking stock & starting fresh. The idea was to reflect back on the year that was coming to an end, and start looking forwards to the new year and your priorities in it.

I asked 3 questions about 2018:

  • What are you most excited for?
  • What new challenges are you facing?
  • What are you hoping to achieve?

Now as 2018 begins to draw to a close I’ve started looking back over my own year, and asking myself whether I achieved all the things I had hoped to, and how those ‘new challenges’ turned out for me.

I don’t know about you, but it’s been a pretty busy year, and I definitely didn’t foresee half of what I ended up spending my time on! I achieved things I didn’t expect to - which is great! But it also means some of the things I had planned haven’t yet come to fruition…

As we head into the final weeks of this year, ask yourself if there’s anything that you had hoped to achieve, that you haven’t yet managed to ‘tick off’.

Is it something you still want to achieve? If so it may not be too late for you! And even if you aren’t able to squeeze it in before the new year, think about what you can do to ensure you are able to see it through in 2019.

Ask yourself what factors led to you not being able to reach that achievement. Were they external - events or circumstances you had no control over? Or things that you could have overcome with the right effort?

How can you mitigate these roadblocks in future? Is it simply a matter of perseverance, or are there more concrete changes required?

If you wrote yourself any notes at the time, read back over them and reflect on the progress you’ve made this year. New experiences, new perspectives, new priorities… what’s changed for you in these past 11 months?
